THE MANU LIBRARY KARIAPATTI
The
thought of Mr.R.Bharathan a retired official of the statistical
Department of Tamil Nadu, to serve for the society blossomed as
a library and he sponsored with his own effort and enthusiasm the
Manu Library in Kariapatti, Virudhunagar District in Tamilnadu,
India, on 15.10.2002 utilizing the fiscal assistance of the Manu
Trust. The inaugural function was felicitated by Mrs.Kalavathi Ayyachamy
who lit the light in the presence of Mrs.Saraswathi Govindaraj and
under the President ship of Mr.Durairaj, BDO (Rtd.).
The High Ideals of the Library:
The sport of the Manu Library spurted towards achieving its high
ideals i.e.,
- Usefulness
to the readers,
- Utilization
of the learned and
- Rendering
helps to the learners.
Enlightens
the knowledge of the people belonging to the categories - children,
ad descents and adults. The first one is supplied with children
literature and indoor games while the second category is being inculcated
the importance of morality, nationalism, character building, self-confidence
and creative power through special lectures by great scholars and
social workers. The third comprising the elders, use this library
as a pastime square and a place for keeping their reading practice
continuously.
The
salient features of the Library:
The Pretty campus of this library is very calm and attractive
situated in Pandiyan Nagar of Kariapatti. It has a collection of
more than 4000 books, all wrapped with plastic cover. They are classified
with decimal code in accordance with the scope of various fields.
The Plethora of dailies, weeklies and monthlies available here expands
the knowledge and intelligence of the readers who apply for writing
the competitive examinations and attracts the attention of regular
readers too. To create imagination power and spirit of the children
on indoor games the library keeps available the chess coins, puzzle
charts, blocks, etc. The library has 125 members and it works from
7.30a.m. to 7.30p.m. daily. It has one librarian who does his job
of lending and borrowing books and keeping necessary records. A
list of donors is also exhibited on the wall of the reading room.
The Rotation Library and the Readers Circle are its two offshoots.
Functions of the Library:
To encourage the school going children the Manu Library supplies
freely and reading and writing material boxes, crayons, slates and
reading and writing material to the students studying in all standards.
The builders of models, the players of Veena and other musical instruments,
the makers of toys and paper bouquets and other artists are hailed
with the distribution of prizes and citations. S.Athi Narayanan
doing B.E., in the Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti and
the receiver of commendation from our beloved President of India,
Dr.Abdulkhalam, for his valuable research paper on cryptology and
S.Rewichandran of Std XI in the local Government Higher Secondary
School who had bagged the school prize of the State Level Drawing
Competition are honoured with attractive prizes by this library.
The Readers Circle of our library celebrates every year the Thiruvalluvar
Day, the Bharathi Day, the World Women's Day, the Thaipongal Day
and the National Days conducting the Thirukkural recitation, drawing,
elocution, essay writing and kolam competiions pertaining to the
respective days and honouring the winners. It engages experts from
various fields and retired teachers from our Readers Circle and
some members of this library to conduct classes on ethics and moral
teachings of Swami Vivekanandha and other moral preceptors during
summer holidays to the students. The dropouts and other aspirants
in addition to the free supply of Ethic Books that are compiled
and presented by the Manu Library. It also remembers the present
generation, the services, the legacies and the contributions of
Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr.Ambedker, Indira Gandhi, Kamaraj,
Kattabomman and other historical figures and dedicators through
organizing public meeting and special address by eminent scholars,
social workers and patriots. The Rotation Library takes weekly and
monthly journals and books to the near by village once in a fortnight
and recollects them after issuing other journals and books in lieu
of them instantly.
Acknowledgment:
The Manu Library acknowledges gratefully the ideas and suggestions
of the readers, the visitors, the donors of money and study material
and sponsors of the Kasthuribai Tailoring Training Centre which
runs in this library premise giving the ladies freely the training
on tailoring, cutting and spinning and other handicrafts. Also it
extends its acknowledgements to the visitors, the readers and contributors
of the present and the days to come. |
